It is seven years to the day Ogenyi Onazi helped Lazio defeat arch-city rivals Roma to lift the Italian Cup, and the Nigerian midfield enforcer still cherishes a most wonderful moment for both club and fans.
Nigeria international Onazi has spoken of how, as a youngster just coming through the ranks, his former Lazio teammates gave him the confidence that inspired him to excel against legends like Francesco Totti during the 2013 Coppa Italia final.
“It was an unforgettable game. I will keep it with me all my life. We were fine, and we gave everything to win that stracittadina, " the former Trabzonspor ace told
"It was very important to win for us and for our supporters. I can't forget the victory of that Italian Cup. During the interval, we talked to each other about the importance of the final with Roma.
"It was not only a derby but also a cup final. There were two goals up for grabs in the same race. When the race started, Klose called me and told me to make a great game to succeed. Hernanes also told me to attack and defend all together to achieve victory. That game was played as a group.
“I can't forget Vladimir Petkovic, who gave me confidence on that occasion: I was young, and I faced great champions like De Rossi and Totti, it was very exciting for me, and I gave my best.
"I don't forget Bollini, either. He gave me tactical sense and the way to play in Italy. It was a great one.
"After the final on May 26, I saw all the Lazio fans happy, and that was our goal. Rome was celebrating, and we celebrated for two consecutive days."
