Arsenal terrible at Sheffield Wednesday but a bigger disaster brewing

Would Arsenal have played better against Sheffield Wednesday on a Wednesday night? I don't think so.

If that game was replayed on a Friday or Sunday, the Premier League giants would still have been humiliated by their lower league opponents.
Wednesday were sharper, ready for the fight and deserved to win, despite it being on a Tuesday evening.

The Gunners can lick their wounds, tend their injuries and roll up their sleeves for the next fight. On a fine Capital One Cup night, the North London kings came up short.
It's an embarassing loss to inferior foes and I don't need to be reminded of Man United's similar loss to MK Dons at this stage last year to know that many of Arsenal's starters last night may not have a future at the club.

Campbell is a likeable guy and so is Debuchy as well as Flamini. This was their chance to put pressure on first team regulars but did any of them do well enough? Certainly not!
I won't be surprised if this trio in particular are moved on by Wenger at the end of the season.
On the evidence of their performances last night, they are fine players in their own right, just not good enough for a title-chasing team.

Wenger smartly deflected focus from the defeat to the mounting number of injuries in the team, and I sympatize with him. Rosicky, Wilshere, Welbeck, all first choice picks now joined on the doctor's table by Walcott, Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain.
He needs however to be realistic and use his wallet wisely when January comes around. I doubt that greatly though if it's the same Wenger we know.

It's over with the Capital One Cup atleast for another 12months. I can live with that. The next fight is at Swansea at the weekend and the team I want on show that day should resemble more the one that so outwitted Bayern than the carricature on display last night.
